Science gave me everything. It’s magic. Once you fall in love with it
it’s for life. Thanks to science I was able to discover one invisible
but full of wanders world. It captured my heart from the student bench
and it still fascinates me today, some fifty years later. During this
time, I discovered and described 104 new species from caves and
underground waters in Bulgaria, Argentina, France, Italy, Japan,
Thailand and Iceland as well as those found in the sea bed of the Black
Sea, the Atlantic Ocean, the Adriatic Sea and the Sea of Japan.
Of course, all this came at a price. I had to trade in my families
and my own private time and my presence with the loved ones. For the
truly dedicated to science it’s work and work and work again. No free
time, no celebrations, no vacations, no rest and very few friends.
