Описание
This monograph examines the economic case for critical grid automation in Southeast Europe, with emphasis on ADMS and DERMS technologies. The analysis goes beyond technology description to provide a quantitative assessment of costs, benefits, and return on investment under the specific operational and regulatory conditions of the region.
Southeast Europe presents a distinctive context for grid automation deployment requiring focused analytical attention. The region's EU member states and Energy Community participants are integrating rapidly growing renewable energy portfolios, among the highest solar irradiance levels in Europe coupled with considerable wind resources in coastal and mountainous areas, while operating under binding EU regulatory frameworks.
The EU accession dynamics specific to the Western Balkan countries and the prospect of eventual EU membership for candidates including Serbia, Albania, and North Macedonia introduce additional strategic dimensions. These territories are incentivized to achieve EU compliance in network performance and environmental metrics within compressed timeframes, making the rapid deployment of proven grid automation technologies economically rational if the specific return profile can be demonstrated for Southeast European conditions. The research addresses this gap by providing quantitatively grounded evidence on grid automation economics adapted to Southeast European technical, economic, and regulatory contexts, thereby presenting investment decisions for a critical market segment that has received limited empirical study.
